Cape Town’s only two Idols SA hopefuls for season 17 are both through to the Top 10!
Berry and Daylin Sass are one step closer to the grand prize after battling it out for the Top 10 on Sunday night.
Viewers cast over 8 million votes over the past two weeks, and sadly, it was the end of the road for six contestants.
The last 10, as chosen by voters, are: Nqobi, Berry, Daylin Sass, Sia Mzizi, Karabo, S’22kile, Monique, Kevin, Bulelani and Ithana.
Berry, whose full name is Berenike Rae Trytsman, 31, from Bothasig, said she was grateful to fans for believing in her.
Talking to the Daily Voice shortly after the thrilling live show on Sunday night, the mom of four said: “I feel so amazing! I’m so grateful to my supporters and everyone who worked so hard voting for me! I wouldn't be here without them.
“The group song was so much fun, it was great to try something different.
“My motivation going forward is to just always try and be better than I was the last time and always stay true to who I am. I have my family, friends and amazing supporters all counting on me to give it my all so that’s what I’ll do.”
Sunday’s show had the Top 16 perform some of SA’s biggest songs.
The in-studio audience was made up of contestants’ friends and family, along with judges Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams.
Group one gave a spirited performance of Siyathandana by Cassper Nyovest and group two sang a funky rendition of Blaq Diamond’s Summer YoMuthi.
An overwhelmed Daylin said: “Making it to the Top 10 feels so surreal. It has always just been this dream and when I was announced as a Top 10 finalist, I was so happy.
“My dream finally became a reality and It feels absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone for voting for me.
“My motivation is definitely my supporters, everyone has been so supportive of my Idols SA journey since they’ve seen my very first audition.”
Next Sunday, the Top 10 will show us what they’re made of and there will be no eliminations.
