Hanover Park singer Daylin Sass is the second and final Cape Town hopeful to make it to the Top 16 of Idols season 17 this year.
In a nail-biting final audition on Sunday, Daylin brought tears to judge Unathi’s eyes with his rendition of ‘Save Your Tears’ by The Weeknd.
An overwhelmed Unathi was moved by Daylin’s performance and gave him a standing ovation.
She was not the only one who had shed a tear.
Daylin himself was overcome with emotions when hearing the news that he had made it to the next round.
“I’m very happy with my performance. I left my entire soul on the stage and that’s not what I did in rehearsal,” says Daylin.
“That to me means that I did my best and the fact that I touched so many people throughout the performance, makes it worthwhile.
“Even Sis Unathi cried and gave me a standing ovation.”
As the top 10 beckons, contestants are facing even more intense battles.
The only other Capetonian to make it so far is Bothasig mom of four Berenike Rae Trytsman aka Berry, 31.
Daylin says making it to the Top 16 is a dream come true but he’s gunning for the big prize: “I’ve always wanted to be on the Idols SA stage and to finally be able to do it in the Top 16, is absolutely amazing.
“This has been a definite dream since I was a boy.
“Providing for my mom would mean a lot to me because she’s done so much for me all my life and I just want to give back to her and then to create music that touches the hearts and souls of people. “
A quick YouTube search reveals Daylin as a cute little 12-year-old soloist singing I Have A Home Beyond The River in the New Apostolic Church Children’s choir.
The video has had over 2000 views since posted a year ago.
Daylin tells the Daily Voice: “That performance took place in 2010 for our International Apostles Meeting of the New Apostolic Church.
“It was my very first solo on such a huge platform as a Sunday school kid.
“That is a memory that will forever live in my heart.”
