Cape Town’s two Idols finalist have made it to the Top 8, thanks to the votes from their fans.
Bothasig mom of four aka Berry, 31, secured a spot alongside Hanover Park’s Daylin Sass, 22.
Over five million votes were cast by South Africans eager to see their favorites make it through to the next round of Season 17 of Idols on Sunday night.
Despite their nerves, the Top 9 had to perform before the announcement, and unfortunately it was the end of the road for Monique from Johannesburg.
Berry, who performed ‘Blinding Lights’ by The Weeknd, elicited mixed reactions, with judge Randall saying her performance was not authentic, while Unathi and Dineo felt she had nailed the song.
After the show, Berry told the Daily Voice: “The show was extremely nerve wrecking, waiting to hear if you're through and still be able to perform the song you've been learning all week.
“It was such a wonderful experience to be able to sing on the Idols stage again.
“I loved my song and felt like it showed a different side of Berry - there is always more up my sleeve. I feel like all my childhood dreams are coming true and it's only because of God's grace and my supporters who believe in me.”
Daylin Sass sang Justin Bieber’s ‘Yummy’, and while the judges agreed that it was not a good competition song, they did praise him for his performance.
Daylin says he was shocked to hear his name called for the Top 8, “not because I didn't expect it but because it's still unbelievable, hearing my name called out is so surreal.
“I'm excited for the week ahead. The judges' comments were very positive. I can't wait to perform for everyone’s votes again. I will do all the right things to keep on fighting.”
Former contestant Lloyiso opened the night with his latest hit, ‘Seasons’, demonstrating just how far talent can take you even if you don’t win the competition .
