After another twist in the Ndorogate saga on Tuesday, former Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse says it’s time for change at the top of SA soccer.
The Urban Warriors’ urgent application to stop the start of the PSL season was postponed until tomorrow after more stalling tactics by the league bosses.
And Paulse believes this sad case is indicative of where South African football is.
He tells the Daily Voice: “There are two sides to this story.
“The one is that Ajax should never have been in this situation - if the player is ineligible, don't get him.
“The Ndoro eligibility case should never have been drawn out this far.
“And two, now that it has come this far, it’s shedding light on the dark side of the administration.
“If we want to see SA football reach the heights we all believe it can, then Safa and the PSL need to get their house in order.
“We just can’t seem to get it right, but the same people remain in power.”
Urban Warriors CEO Ari Efstathiou was in the South Gauteng High Court yesterday to plead that Judge Denise Fisher’s July 2 ruling to reinstate the club to 15th place in the league be made law, setting aside Safa arbitrator William Mokhari’s decision that relegated Ajax.
But Efstathiou had no choice but to stand down on the matter as the court received the papers from the PSL for a leave to appeal late on Monday night.
And the businessman says it’s just stalling tactics from league bosses, who want the season to kick off next weekend without Ajax.
He says: “We will now come back to see Judge Fisher on Thursday morning for the leave to appeal issue and then at 11h30 come to this court with the interdict.
“I just hope that it’s not a delay to make things a bit more difficult. The league could have dealt with this [speedily]. We gave them papers on Wednesday.”
