Manenberg police are on the hunt for a gang of armed skelms who robbed the same supermarket twice in as many days.
Acting station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, says the robbers took R16 000 in total from the Mama Africa supermarket at Nyanga Junction during the robberies, in which they held the owner at gunpoint.
He says on Thursday shortly before 1pm, seven skelms entered the store and demanded cash.
“Seven men entered the store, of which two were armed, and demanded money from the owner,” says Zama.
“One of them grabbed the money in the till which was about R6000. Others took cigarettes and cooldrinks and they fled the scene. No shots were fired and the owner was not harmed.”
Zama says on Saturday officers got a skrik when they heard the same store was robbed again and this time the skelms made off with R10 000.
“At about 2.30pm, four men came into the shop. Two of them stood next to the door and two of them held the staff up with firearms and again demanded money.
“The complainant gave them the R10 000 that was in the shop and they also took chips before fleeing the scene.”
Police are now appealing for help in finding the skelms.
Zama adds: “The detectives are working to trace the suspects, but are calling on residents to come forward with information. “
