An Ottery woman suspected of hiding guns for gangsters was nabbed when cops found the weapon hidden in her bathroom wall.
Grassy Park station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says the gunfights between the Mongrels and Yuru Cats gangs in December have left two women and one man dead, including a 60-year-old ouma on 27 December.
“In the first shooting at 10.45am, it is alleged that the Yuru Cats went over to the Mongrels turf and opened fire on five people,” Laing says.
“Two women, aged 60 and 33, died on the scene and a woman and two men were taken to hospital.
“Later in the day an innocent couple were sitting in a car in Edward Road when it is alleged the Mongrels retaliated and opened fire on Yuru Cats turf and killed the male from Wetton in the car while his girlfriend survived.”
Over the weekend, cops arrested two alleged hitmen of the Mongrels gang for the shooting.
Laing says cops went to a block of flats after receiving information that drugs were being stored at a flat and during a search they found a 9mm pistol with 15 live rounds hidden in a hole in the bathroom wall.
He says Marelise Peters, 32, admitted she was hiding the gun.
She was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Laing says the gun will undergo ballistic tests which could lead to more charges against her.
