An 87-year-old woman from Kraaifontein is lucky to be alive after she fought off an attacker in her home, but was saved by private security guards who broke down her door to check on her.
They went to knock on her door on Monday after worried neighbours said she was not responding when they called and did not answer her phone.
A spokesperson for Titanium Rapid Response confirmed that she was rushed to hospital and was in a stable condition after she was found lying on her bedroom floor.
“An elderly woman was severely assaulted after a person gained entry to her premises in Peerless Park North.
“Our Rapid Response vehicle as well as our ambulance immediately responded to the scene.
“On arrival an adult female was found inside her bedroom on the floor. She sustained serious injuries after trying to fight off her attacker.
“Our medical team immediately stabilized the patient. She was transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.
“According to her the suspect came in shortly after 10am on Monday and introduced
himself as an employee from the municipality and needed to check the water meter.
“A concerned neighbour realized late on Monday night that something is not right and found her in her room.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed: “Circumstances surrounding the attack on an 87-year-old woman in her home in Drostdy Street, Peerless Park North, Kraaifontein on Monday are under investigation.
“No arrest has been made as yet and the investigation continues.”
