Just a month after a family member of a Neighbourhood Watch member in Delft was cold-bloodedly killed, another safety patroller was attacked and neighbours say he now fears for his life.
According to a friend of the 45-year-old man, who patrols the community looking out for skelms, a group of men attacked him and when he ran into his home, they started pelting his hokkie with stones.
The local Neighbourhood Watch came to assist him while people claim police did not respond to calls for help.
The patrollers have asked to remain anonymous as they are in danger.
A 48-year-old mother says criminals are trying to
intimidate them: “We are very concerned. “The area we live in is very unsafe. In the entire area of Delft our children are unsafe and we cannot walk in the street without someone being attacked.
“We are just trying to keep the community safe and we don’t get any help.
“He was beaten and had to run for his life. We cannot live like this anymore,” she says.
Reggie Hill, who heads up one of the block watches in the area, says he heard about the incident and they are currently engaging with Law Enforcement to increase patrols.
“We have gotten nowhere with Delft SAPS yet and if innocent people who are working on fixing their communities continue to suffer, we need to do more.
“We were told parents need to stand up. Our parents are standing up, but they have no protection,” Hill said.
On 25 September, family of a NHW member was shot
multiple times while on his way home.
