An alleged drug dealer has been nabbed after he was caught merting in a pub.
Undercover cops watched the suspect, 37, for several days before arresting him at the pub in Main Road, Observatory on Tuesday.
Woodstock Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hilton Malila, says the man was found in possession of 54 packets of tik, 22 mandrax tablets and six half mandrax tablets.
He says they will report the pub to the Liquor Licensing Board.
“Woodstock Crime Prevention Unit members made a huge breakthrough after weeks of observation at the pub, following information obtained by the public about illicit activities inside and outside the pub.
“Smooth and swift reaction by the members, after noticing a drug deal go down, led to the arrest of the dealer inside the pub, when officers confiscated 54 packets of tik, 22 mandrax tablets, six half mandrax tablets and a substantial amount of cash in his possession.
“The man will be charged for dealing in and possession of drugs and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once charged.
“A detailed report will also be sent to the Liquor Board pertaining the illegal activities at the pub.
“Woodstock SAPS want to send out a strong message to liquor license owners to stay away from conducting illegal activities on your premises as we won’t leave any stone unturned...”
