An alleged mert from Parkwood is behind bars after cops caught him with drugs worth R2500 on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old man from the Canal Walk Informal Settlement in Parkwood was given a rude awakening by Grassy Park Police on Wednesday as they raided his hokkie after a tip-off.
Police spokesperson, Captain Wynita Kleinsmith, says officers were carrying out search warrants in the informal settlement amid complaints about drug dealers in the area.
"They told us about his hokkie and when we went to search he just woke up. You could see he was surprised because he didn't expect us to skut his hokkie. When we got inside he was busy preparing a piece of foil so he could take a hit of heroin. During the search we found the drugs stashed in the curtain."

Officers confiscated 26 units of heroin, 13 whole mandrax tablets, 13 half mandrax tablets, 23 packets of tik, eight bankies of dagga, one parcel of dagga and 46 stopped of dagga worth R2500.
While officers booked him into the cells his upset mother arrived at the station asking to speak to the arresting officers. "Gee die vi r my ma," the alleged mert said as he handed over a R30 to the cop.
