An alleged gangster from Ottery has been evicted from his council flat amid complaints about drug activities at his home.
Law Enforcement officers, accompanied by Grassy Park police, descended on the pella pos at Belle Court on Wednesday morning, where the Sheriff of the Court served the notice and workers cleared the flat.
Grassy Park Police Station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says the flat is occupied by a member of the Mongrels gang and used as a pella pos.
“We are very happy that the flat has been cleared because of all of the complaints about drugs and gangsters. It is occupied by a known member of the
Mongrels gang and the complaints from residents include that people come there to smoke their drugs. There are so many decent people on the housing list waiting for a place to live and then people use the council flats for crime.”
As the alleged gang members furniture was removed from the flat empty tik packets could be seen in the kitchen.

Mayco Member for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, says the department has followed the prescribed legal processes and regulatory policies in addressing the unlawful occupancy and complaints received and subsequent investigation regarding anti-social behaviour at the flat.
“The unlawful occupants were served with a notice letter to vacate on 25 May 2017. Failing to vacate the premises, the matter was then referred to the City’s Legal Services Department in October 2017 and a court order was granted for the unlawful occupants to vacate by 1 August 2019.
“The City will assess the condition of the vacated property to do the necessary repairs.”
