Cops have arrested an elderly couple, aged 70 and 64, for being in
possession of drugs in Woodstock.
Police raided their home in Wright Street on
Sunday, following a tip-off, and found Mandrax worth R5000.
This follows the arrest of an alleged drug dealer in Mascani informal settlement, also in Woodstock, who had R35 000 of drugs including 5kg of tik in his possession.
The couple, Anthony Geduld, 70, and Mareldia Cupido, 64, made their first appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
When cops arrived at their house on Sunday, the two tried to escape.
Police found 100 mandrax tablets in the front section of the house.
Woodstock Police
Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hilton Malila, says the couple are facing charges of dealing in drugs.
“Upon police arrival at the house, the two were arrested trying to dispose of the evidence, but rapid response from the
officers, led to the confiscation of 100 mandrax tablets,” he says.
On Saturday night, cops also nabbed a 30-year old mert in Mascani.
“The area where the suspect was arrested is being used for drug
peddling and trafficking, by undocumented people,” says Malila.
“When officers on foot patrol spotted the drug peddler, he tried to make evasive moves, but swift reaction by the officers led to the apprehension of the man.
“During a search of the man, officers discovered a plastic bag containing 94 units of heroin and 5kg of tik, that was in his
possession.
“The drugs have an
estimated street value of R35 000.”
