Mitchells Plain residents are shocked after a “respectable” couple was arrested with a stash of drugs.
A tip-off from the community had led to the arrest of the man, 21, and woman, 26, at the house in Leadwood Street, Eastridge.
When the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit searched the premises, they found all kinds of drugs, ranging from cocaine and tik, to mandrax, heroin and dagga.
One aunty said she has lived in Leadwood Street for years and never suspected anything.
“I am shocked that those two were arrested. Hulle lyk mos respectable and always neat and so. You reap what you sow,” said the resident, 62.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said the pair will appear in court soon.
“On Monday afternoon, officers from the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit conducted a search at the house in Eastridge after receiving information that drugs were being stored there,” he says.
“They found three packets of cocaine, 10 small packets of tik, 19 heroin straws, 33g of heroin, 19 ecstasy tablets, 259g of dagga, 11 dagga cigarettes, five whole mandrax tablets and 10 half mandrax tablets.”
An undisclosed amount of cash was also confiscated.
“The members arrested two suspects. A man, 21, and a woman, 26, were arrested,” added Van Wyk.
