A suspected hijacker was killed in a shootout with police in Manenberg on Saturday after the stolen car ran out of petrol.
According to a police source, the 24-year-old man was part of a group of four alleged Dixie Boys skollies who brazenly opened fire on police after hijacking two motorists in the same area, just minutes apart.
The source says an unsuspecting man sitting in his maroon Fiat Uno in Lillian Ngoyi Street was taken on a hell ride by the gangsters after they pounced on him shortly after 10pm.
“The man was sitting in his car when three coloured males and one black male approached him with a gun,” explains the source.
“They are allegedly members of the Dixie Boys gang and they hijacked the Uno, with the driver still in the vehicle.
“But their plans came to a quick end when the car ran out of petrol and got stuck in Oliver Tambo Avenue.”

The brazen skollies jumped out of the car, fired a shot into the ground to scare the terrified motorist and
ran away.
“They went to a nearby tavern and saw a man sitting in a silver Toyota Tazz outside and also held him up at gunpoint,” adds the source.
“The man was waiting for his girlfriend who was still inside the tavern when they threw him out of his car and sped off.”
The second motorist flagged a police vehicle and Manenberg cops radioed Gugulethu cops and told them to be on the lookout for the Tazz.
“Gugulethu officers spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued, but the hijackers drove back to Tambo Village where they were cornered by Manenberg police.
“Then they opened fire on cops and officers returned fire.
“The driver jumped out and escaped, but officers caught two of the men in the vehicle and the one died on the scene after being struck in the neck.
