A police officer has been wounded after he allegedly shot and killed a
suspected hijacker during a high-speed car chase.
The chase ended on a dramatic note in Muizenberg on Sunday just after 8.45pm.
The cops had given chase after they picked up on their system that the Chevrolet Aveo had been reported as hijacked in Lwandle in September.
A 9mm firearm and 15 rounds of ammunition belonging to the dead suspect were found at the scene.
Witness, Shea Damonze, tells the Daily Voice he and a friend were walking along Beach Road leading to Muizenberg when the police vehicles sped past them.

A few minutes later they came upon the wounded cop and the dead suspect.
The 51-year-old officer, who is a warrant officer and a member of the Flying Squad, had been wounded in both shoulders, left leg and hand.
While taking pictures of the scene, Shea says he noticed the 9mm gun lying in the bushes.
“We were walking towards Muizenberg and saw two police officers speed past in their vehicles which was followed by a third car,” he explains.
“My friend said something is going to happen.
“We were basically first on the scene and found the cop lying there wounded.
“The suspect was dead.
“While we stood in the bush, trying to see what was happening and to take pictures, we saw the firearm but did not touch it.”
Police say the suspect’s hijacked vehicle was found at the scene and the badly injured officer was rushed to the hospital.
The dead suspect has not yet been identified.
