It's great that PSL clubs are leading the way for South
African football.
Don’t underestimate just how massive it will be for the game should Mamelodi Sundowns return from Egypt as
champions of Africa.
Conquering the continent is a huge step in the psyche of the game here. And it all started with Orlando Pirates’ run to the final.
Seeing the boost Bucs players got from their African adventure suddenly saw them dominate the Bafana Bafana team.
And it’s no coincidence why. They have been through the trials of travelling into the continent and got used to the dirty tricks played by their opponents - the unnecessary detours and poor training facilities.
Not too long ago, clubs like Kaizer Chiefs wanted niks to do with it.
But now they see importance beyond the prestige of winning the continental trophy.
This is about playing in the toughest conditions and going out on top.
That’s what African football is all about.
It was pretty impressive to see Bafana match Burkina Faso and Ghana physically in the last international week.
There was no win, but playing away in Africa is tough.
Downs have done the business so far, with a little help from AS Vita’s disqualification and showed their killer instinct at home with the 3-0 win over Zamalek in the first leg of their final.
It’s a lesson Bafana must learn, to take teams out on home soil.
Africa is not for sissies and Safa and the PSL should grow some balls.
