Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj is convinced they can turn around their fortunes in Sri Lanka in the second and final Test which starts in Colombo on Friday.
After losing the first five-dayer by 278 runs, the Proteas have to win the final match to secure a series draw - which Maharaj believes is as good as a win in the subcontinent.
He explains: “It was obviously not the ideal start for the team. But what makes us really good is our ability to bounce back.
“We obviously started the series quite slowly and build up from there. Hopefully we can salvage the draw, which is as good as winning in the subcontinent.
“It’s really tough conditions that we’re not exposed to [back home].”
Personally, Maharaj took four wickets in the second innings of the Galle match after failing to claim a scalp in the first innings.
Of his performances, Maharaj says: “I just like to bowl excessively - the more I bowl the better it becomes.
“For a spinner the feel of the ball is very important.
“I will try to stick to the simple things that have worked for me in the past few years.
“I think I got back to my best in the second innings.”
