South African para-athlete Lebogang Shange was in top form in the 11th leg of the IAAF Diamond League series in London, England, at the weekend when he broke the national record in the 3 000m walk.
The 3 000m walk for men is a rarely-contested event and Shange was second in 10:47.08. The winner was British athlete Tom Bosworth, who set a world record of 10:43.84.
Meanwhile, teenager Ntando Mahlangu, the 2016 Paralympian, won the T61 200m men's sprint in 23.56.
“Congratulations to Lebogang for the new SA record in the 3 000m walk,” said Aleck Skhosana, the president of Athletics South Africa.
“This shows that he is in good shape for the longer walking events.
“We thank the team behind the team for assisting him to get to where he is right now. His focus must be on preparing for the bigger stage like the 2019 IAAF World Championships and 2020 Olympic Games."
