Arsenal legend Robert Pires says Unai Emery is the right man to lead the Gunners after former boss Arsene Wenger revealed his biggest regret was staying at the club for 22 years.
Emery took the reins in May after Wenger’s decision to step down and Pires backs the Spaniard to emulate his successes in Spain and France.
With the former Sevilla and Paris St Germain boss revamping the playing squad, Pires says: “The best signing for me is Unai Emery, the manager.
“He won in Spain. He won in France. He has a lot of experience and I hope for him and Arsenal that he is successful with the club.”
Meanwhile, Wenger admits he is looking forward to a new challenge after missing out on them because his commitment to Arsenal.
Asked what the biggest mistake of his career was, the Frenchman tells RTL: “Perhaps staying at the same club for 22 years I was a little bit of a prisoner to my challenge each time.”
