Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter had to rope in his laaitie to put out fires ahead their Afcon 2019 qualifier on Saturday.
Already short of an assistant coach, the absence of goalkeeper coach Andre Arendse due to a family commitment saw Baxter call up Kaizer Chiefs counterpart, his son Lee, to help him out.
To make matters worse, injuries ravaged his midfield ahead of the clash in Durban against Group E leaders Libya.
Only 12 players arrived for the training camp yesterday, as France-based Bongani Zungu (knee) and Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane (toe) were ruled out due to injuries.
Zwane’s club teammate Hlompho Kekana is a serious doubt for the match after they both featured in the MTN8 semifinal defeat to Cape Town City on Sunday.
But Baxter wasted no time in calling up replacements, bringing Orlando Pirates’ Vincent Pule, SuperSport United winger Aubrey Modiba and Downs anchorman Tiyani Mabunda into the fold.
Up front, new Strasbourg striker Lebo Mothiba will also miss out on the game with a hamstring injury.
And the problems get even deeper as SuperSport pair Dean Furman and Bradley Grobler, who played in the MTN8 semi against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, nursed knocks on Monday.
