Arsene Wenger believes he is the man to get Manchester United out of their current crisis.
The legendary former Arsenal boss spoke on Wednesday night after United needed penalties to get past third-tier Rochdale and book a League Cup fourth-round clash with Chelsea.
With United currently in eighth place on the Premier League log after winning just two matches out of a possible six, they next face Wenger’s ex-club Arsenal on Monday.
And with fans growing increasingly frustrated with coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, Wenger believes he has the solution.
The out-of-job 69-year-old says: “Manchester United is a dream job for any coach. I have confidence, I have courage… and you’re right, I have ideas.”

And he believes those “ideas” will get United challenging for top honours again.
Wenger adds: “They need – in my opinion – four first team players.
“But around those players, I see a squad that is capable of challenging. They aren’t as far away as people think.
“The team have no pattern of play, no pattern of pressing. There is a team there, but it needs to be coached and developed.

“Like I said, four players and they can be challengers. For everything.”Solskjaer stuck the knife into his players after edging past Rochdale, who scored through 16-year-old Luke Matheson to force the game to a shootout after United teenager Mason Greenwood’s opener.
After netting just once from 31 shots at goal, the Norwegian says: “We’re better at penalties than we are in proper games.”
