Benni McCarthy will rev up his Cape Town City manne as they look to make their second straight MTN8 final appearance count.
City have made disappointing starts to their last two outings - a 4-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs and a 2-2 draw to Orlando Pirates.
But after some hard work on the training field and analysis ahead of Saturday’s silverware showdown with SuperSport United in Durban, Benni says they need a fast start.
He says: “It’s just to approach this differently. We must make our presence felt.
“We have to make sure that we get into the game quickly, and that we start fresh and go at the opposition from the opening whistle.
“The team that makes fewer mistakes will succeed. The winner will be determined by courage, hard work and the team that is prepared to lay it all down on the pitch on match day.”
The clash in Durban is a repeat of last season’s decider, when City lost on penalties.
And Benni adds: “The team deserves to be in the final and I want this victory for the players - because we don’t want to be a team that gets to finals, but then doesn’t get over the line.”
The coach is also playing his cards close to his chest over the match-readiness of striker Tokelo Rantie.
The Bafana Bafana striker will have a final check on his hamstring today to see if he has a role to play in the final.
Benni adds: “We are hopeful. But we will see how he recovers.”
