Benni McCarthy hopes his maiden trophy opens doors for younger coaches in football.
The Cape Town City boss took his first job at helm of a club at the beginning of last season and lifted the MTN8 on Saturday.
It’s a rapid rise for the rookie coach, who was already on a mission to make up for losing the same competition in the final last October.
But the 40-year-old believes that coming into the game with new energy and fresh ideas helps to progress the sport.
He says: “This will open up doors for young coaches that I’ve come in and many people say you’ve got to pay your dues.
“When you work hard and put in the effort and study the books and analyse the opposition I don’t think young coaches can fail.”
City are back in PSL action on Tuesday night against Wits at Cape Town City (7.30pm).
