Cape Town City snapped up free agent Fagrie Lakay on Friday, adding another attacking option to coach Benni McCarthy's arsenal.
The 22-year-old was released by Wits on Wednesday amid reports of the club cutting costs and Lakay joined Prince Nxumalo, former City target Robyn Johannes and club CEO Jose Ferreira in leaving the club last week.
The winger returns to the Mother City after playing for SuperSport and Wits, having started his professional career with Santos in 2012.
After a meteoric rise in South African football, Lakay became the youngest player to run out for Bafana Bafana, making his international debut against Ivory Coast on November 30, 2014 at the age of 17 years, 5 months, 30 days.
Lakay replaces Denmark-bound Gift Links after the club targeted former winger Aubrey Ngoma, but they couldn’t strike a deal with Mamelodi Sundowns.
