Benni McCarthy is hoping that the goals start flowing for his Cape Town City team once the international break is over so they can start winning matches again.
City played to a goalless draw with Maritzburg United on Friday, failing to win their first PSL match since the opening-round match of the season.
The visitors to Harry Gwala Stadium dominated the match and had their chances to snap a winless run of seven matches in the league, despite having 17 attempts at goal.
And Benni seems to have put his bets on Bafana Bafana striker Tokelo Rantie scoring the goals once he comes back to full fitness when the league resumes against AmaZulu on October 27.
Benni says: “It’s just a shame there was no end product and put the ball in the back of the net.
“And it’s stressing me, because we create the chances, but I just don’t know where it’s gonna come from.
“But we’ll keep working and Rantie is getting better, so hopefully he has the answers.”
Confidence in front of goal and the poor performances of the back-up in the squad had Benni in a critical mood of his players ahead of the game.
But the legend saw some positives after City lifted their game a couple of notches from Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Wits – just three days after lifting the MTN8 trophy last Saturday.
Benni adds: “The one thing I can take from the game is that my team showed the spirit that I know they have."
