The Daily Voice was invited to join singer Mujahid George and his loved ones for a special Labarang lunch on Wednesday.
Mujahid, 31, hosts his own TV show on Cape Town TV, called The Boy from Bo-Kaap, focused on lifestyle.
His mother’s Bo-Kaap home was filled with delicious aromas as Mujahid welcomed his guests, Cape Town PR guru Andre Gilbertson, theatre legend Terry Fortune, Cricket South Africa vice-president Beresford Williams, theatre director Basil Appolis, and choir co-ordinator Shirley Ann Olivier.
Mujahid’s mother, Moseda George, 54, dished up heaps of freshly-made akni and biryani.
Guests also feasted on a leg of lamb, crayfish curry, prawn curry, chicken and roasted vegetables.
Terry reminisced: “For years every Eid, I would have lunch with (late singer) Zayn Adam and his family.
“Throughout the lunch period, friends and family would pop in to greet and Zayn would insist they eat and join in celebrating the day.
“Around four in the afternoon I would make my way down to the hadji’s home in Athlone and (late music legend) Taliep Petersen would have a tafel laid out with every kind of cake and sweet that you can think of.
“All our fights and disagreements would be set aside on this day and we confirmed our love and respect for each other. Eid was a day of sharing friendship and ‘breaking bread’ together. I miss them.”
Terry says Mujahid carried on the legacy of these legends.
Mujahid told the Daily Voice: “This is me thanking those who have walked beside me for this year and I’ve been doing this for the past six years.
“I’ve been blessed so much this year and throughout my career, I can’t wait for Eid day to treat my friends in the entertainment industry.”
After lunch, lekker desserts including cheesecake, lemon merigue and pineapple tart were served.
Everyone received a ready-made barakat to take home.
