Stormers coach Robbie Fleck’s reign came to a heartbreaking end at Newlands on Saturday.
Moments away from making it to the playoffs in the coach’s last season in charge of the team, before being replaced by John Dobson, the Sharks scored a match-winning try via Lukhanyo Am to claim a 12-9 win and bring an end to the Stormers’ 2019 Super Rugby campaign.
It was Fleck’s final act as a Stormers coach, with his contract at the union running out on October 31. But the Newlands faithful have not seen the last of the former Springbok centre.
Fleck explains: “I’ve been in contact with Dobbo [Dobson] obviously, I have played a supporting role in the Currie Cup over the last two years and I’ll play that role again for him.
“Whatever role he wants me to play, I’ll be there for him in whatever role and push for a Currie Cup win. My contract ends on October 31.”

After that it’s anyone’s guess what Fleck will be up to next.
The 43-year-old is keeping his cards close to his chest, saying he would like to take a bit of a break from the game.
He explains: “I’m going to take a break - try and get in a trip to Bali to surf.
“[This] week is about assessing the injury situation and putting things in place for the Currie Cup.”
Western Province will get a chance to avenge their Super Rugby exit when they travel to the Sharks for their first Currie Cup match next month.
