Proteas captain Faf du Plessis’s message to his team is simple; relax boys, it’s just cricket.
Having left for England on Sunday, the Proteas will play their first World Cup warm-up match against Sri Lanka on Friday and will also cross swords with the West Indies on Sunday.
Their real test, however, kicks off next week when they face hosts England in the first World Cup match next Thursday.
Heading into the tournament, Du Plessis admits there will be pressure on the team - especially given their heartbreaking history.
But he says they just have to stay calm.
Du Plessis explains: “The pressure is there, it comes from the public, the media and your own family.
“People have expectations [of the national team].
“The people of South Africa love their sport, they love their cricket.
“But we have to put that aside and focus on the cricket we want to play.”
On the field, Du Plessis believes the Proteas have the bowling attack to defend whatever score is posted by their batsmen.
He explains: “People are saying that the wickets are great [in England].
“We believe we are going there with a very powerful bowling attack; whatever the batters get, we believe we can defend it.”
