Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to see Jesse Lingard at West Ham this weekend.
Or rather he wants to see the Jesse Lingard that starred at West Ham on loan last season play for Manchester United.
Lingard scored nine goals for the Hammers during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, helping them to finish sixth in the Premier League – just nine points behind the Red Devils.
But his return home has not been a happy one, with his howler in midweek condemning United to a shock 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in their Champions League group-stage opener.
However, Solskjaer is willing to give Lingard a chance to redeem himself when United go to the London Stadium tomorrow for a 3pm clash.
The boss says: “He’s got one year left on his contract and of course the club is talking to him and his dad.
“We see him as a Man United player in the future as well.
“Jesse has come back into us after a great spell at West Ham; he showed his qualities, he’s back into the England squad, scoring goals.
“We really want to see the best of Jesse this season, we support him and we hope to keep him here with us, he’s a red through and through.”
Meanwhile, Solskjaer said his hele span have to show improvement after their embarrassing defeat in Switzerland.
He adds: “When you go out on that pitch, it’s who wants to win, that’s one of the big things.
“You want winners and I think I’m getting there with my team, team players.
“We know the expectations are high and we expect more of ourselves as well, the performance wasn’t up to our standard.”
