Today’s kickoff of the PSL playoffs is in doubt, with Royal AM refusing to accept the PSL’s decision to award Sekhukhune United the automatic promotion spot.
After a dragged-out court battle, Sekhukhune were crowned champions of the GladAfrica Championship, relegating second-placed Royal AM to the playoffs against 15th-placed PSL side Chippa United and third-placed Championship side Richards Bay, who they are supposed to face in KZN at 3pm today.
But Royal has thrown the three-team tournament into disarray by approaching the Supreme Court of Appeal.
This after the PSL acted on High Court deputy Judge Roland Sutherland’s decision to dismiss an application by Polokwane City to overturn Advocate Hilton Epstein’s arbitration ruling, which awarded Sekhukhune three points and enabled them to win the National First Division (NFD) GladAfrica Championship.
The three points awarded to Sekhukhune were from their January match against Polokwane who were found guilty of not having five U23 players on their team sheet.
