Alleged drug kingpin and gang boss Fadwaan "Vet" Murphy and three co-accused made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday.
The matter was postponed after the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court heard accused number five was absent after suffering a stroke.
Murphy, his ex-wife Shafieka, 49, his sister Glenda Bird, 46, Dominique Davidson, Leon Paulsen, 52, and his company, Ulterior Trading Solutions, are facing 239 charges including racketeering, dealing in drugs and money laundering.
It is alleged Murphy used his company to make payments to his “drug handlers”.
In addition to accused number five's absence, the defence wasn't ready to proceed with the case.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Eric Ntabazalila, said accused number three had changed attorneys and his new counsel said they're awaiting all the case files.
“Accused 5 had a stroke and was not at court. A warrant of arrest was issued and kept over to the next court appearance," he says.
“The attorney for accused 3 was not given all of the further particulars that was supplied to his previous attorney. A full set was supplied to him after court proceedings.
“The case was postponed to 3 March 2017 for pre-trial. All disputes and admissions must be sorted out by the parties before then.”
Ntabazalila confirmed the trial dates as April 3 to 6, May 8 to 11, and June 5 to 8 this year.
