The murder trial of murdered mom Zarah Jane Hector has been postponed until next year.
The 33-year-old
Kuilsriver mom was bludgeoned to death and her body dumped in March 2016.
Appearing in the Western Cape High Court for her murder are accused Renaldo van Rooyen, 33, from Kuils River and Tawfeeq Ebrahim, 26, from Tuscany Glen.
They are also charged with defeating the ends of justice and robbery of a vehicle.
They allegedly bludgeoned Zarah to death with a hammer in Van Rooyen’s garage, over money she owed Van Rooyen.
On Monday State prosecutor Maria Marshall indicated her intention to call two more witnesses to the stand, both experts in the forensics field.
One was a fingerprint expert and the other a DNA expert.
However, defence lawyers Peter Burgess and Wimpie Strauss both said they were not ready to proceed.
Marshall said she was more than ready to go ahead, but Burgess and Strauss want their own forensics experts to study the final two reports, which were handed in as evidence yesterday.
Zarah’s brother, Brendan, expressed frustration at the delay.
“How many more times are they going to come with their delaying tactics? But I will accept it. We just want this done the right way,” he said.
Judge Lister Nuku said: “This matter will now be postponed. I realise it is taking longer than anticipated, but hopefully by the time we reconvene in three months, the State can have their two final witnesses on the stand.”
The matter will be back in court on 26 February 2018.
