A weak-looking Shakoor Roberts, 25, an alleged satanist, appeared for the second time at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court following his re-arrest last month.
Dressed in a red-hooded jacket, a bruise could be seen on Roberts’ neck.
It was unclear whether he had sustained this or any other injuries while being imprisoned at Pollsmoor Prison.
Roberts was told his case would be postponed to 20 October for him to consult with his lawyer.
Last week, the accused applied for Legal Aid.
Roberts is facing a charge of murder and is yet to plead.
His sister, Rushana Davids, who was supported by family and friends at court tells the Daily Voice she was shocked to see how frail her brother looked.
BATTERED: Shakoor Roberts, 25
“I noticed he had a bruise on his neck. We do not know whether he was wounded or if he was beaten. He looks unhealthy and ill because he is so thin.”
The badly decomposed body of 62-year-old Gafsa Roberts was discovered by a neighbour in a wheelie bin outside her home in Winterhoek Street, Tafelsig, in March 2015, after she went missing.
Family members could only identify the well-known resident by her toes and her hair.
It’s believed Gafsa was beaten to death but a cause of death was never established.
Shakoor lived alone with his sickly mother who suffered from liver disease and pancreatic cancer. She was also diabetic.
Rushana previously said her mom feared her brother whom she believed was a satanist.
