A 29-year-old woman was killed after a quarrel over a borrowed dress.
Police say the unidentified woman was stabbed to death with a bread knife by her friend.
The suspect, Yonela Mbokotho, 24, was arrested two hours after the murder.
Mbokotho appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of murder.
According to court documents, it is alleged the Philippi woman and her friend had had an argument over a dress resulting in her fatally stabbing the deceased in the back.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms: “The suspect allegedly stabbed a 29-year-old victim to death after the deceased had overpowered her while they were fighting over a dress the deceased had borrowed.
“When Yonela saw the deceased was overpowering her, she allegedly took a bread knife and stabbed the deceased.
“Yonela was arrested two hours after the incident on Monday.”
Mbokotho appeared calm in the dock with barely any emotion on her face, dressed in a grey tracksuit for her first court appearance.
The case was postponed to January 18 for bail application.
