Slain former Hard Livings gang leader, Rashied Staggie, will have a hero’s send-off as thousands of Capetonians are expected to descend on Manenberg on Saturday to say a final
farewell.
According to a police source, Cape Flats cops have been visiting various sites including the Manenberg Greens sports field, his home in London Road and the Jubilee Community Church in Observatory as his family finalises the funeral plans.

Acting Manenberg Police Station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, confirms Staggie’s close friend Pastor Ivan Waldeck and his brother, Solomon, had a meeting with him on Wednesday.
“They came and explained that the family will have a
private viewing at his home in London Road and the funeral procession will move to the Jubilee church in Observatory,” says Zama.

“They told me they wanted to use the Manenberg Greens sports field, but I told them we cannot grant them permission as SAPS does not own the facility.
“They went to the soccer clubs and obtained permission from the soccer clubs and so after the funeral service at the church, they will come to Manenberg and they have obtained a permit.
“Provincial police will be doing the safety plan and we cannot divulge any of that information.”
Waldeck says a second brief service will be held at the Manenberg Greens at the “request of Capetonians”.
“The viewing at the home and the service at the church will be for family and close friends,” he says.
“The service will be attended by various pastors as Rashied was a born-again Christian for many years.
“There will be a brief service at the Greens from 11.30am and this is based on a request from the people who want to pay their respects.
“We are expecting thousands, and afterwards we will move to the Durbanville Cemetery where I will commit him to the ground like a good, decent Christian.”

He adds: “The police have a (safety) plan and we don’t expect any trouble. There will be no gun salute (for Staggie) and the family is asking that people remain respectful. They are still traumatised.”
Staggie, 56, was shot and killed in front of his London Street home last Friday by two unknown gunmen.
