Former Hard Livings gang boss Rashied Staggie was killed at the same place where his twin brother, Rashaad, was shot and set alight by People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (Pagad) demonstrators in 1996.
On Friday morning Staggie was shot multiple times while sitting in a car outside his home in London Road, Salt River.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Speaking to Voice of the Cape hours after Staggie's death on Friday, the anti-crime organisation said it has no sympathy for gang leaders who died by the gun.
Pagad national spokesperson Harron Orrie told the radio station they "welcome the overthrow of any gang and drug dealer".
"The time has come for drug dealers to stop. It is time for the communities to rise up above this and people should no longer live in fear in our community."
Orrie also told Eyewitness News, the hit on Staggie was long overdue.
"This type of issue is long overdue. They’ve taken too many lives in our country. It doesn’t matter, the reason behind why he’s no longer here. He can no longer drive fear into our communities or harm them. Look at what he did in Manenberg alone."
Staggie's death comes a day after the murder of another another Hard Livings dik ding, Taariq Solomons aka Ballie Tips, who was shot and killed in Mitchells Plain on Thursday.

Staggie's murder has caused concerns that the Cape Flats will become a gang war zone, but Community Safety MEC, Albert Fritz has condemned the violence and called for calm.
Fritz said: “SAPS have informed me that they are on high alert following the murder of Staggie. I call on all Neighbourhood Watches, CPFs and responsible community leaders to play a role in bringing calm to our people,” Fritz said.
"Staggie died on arrival at a nearby hospital. He was reportedly sitting in his vehicle when two unknown suspects emerged, fired several shots at him and fled on foot.

"Crime scene experts have combed the scene for clues that could assist the murder investigation. Woodstock police have reinforced deployment in and around the Salt River area,” said Fritz.
Fritz further called on anyone with any information to immediately come forward and report such to their local SAPS station or by calling 08600 10111.
