A teen drug runner suspected of smokkeling tik for alleged drug kingpin Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court today after he was bust with a stash worth R125 000.
The 18-year-old suspect from Portlands was caught by cops of the Lentegeur Crime Prevention Unit, who spotted him driving in Appeliefie Street during load shedding.
Standby commander for the Mitchells Plain cluster Colonel Dawood Laing explains: “It was at about 10pm and during load shedding where the officers were patrolling the streets.
“He was driving a silver Audi A3 and the officers pulled him over.
“They found a black bag inside the car and when they opened it, they found 500 packets of tik packaged.
STASH: Tik found inside the car
“He was identified as one of the runners for Vet Murphy and was found in the area run by him.
"At the station it was determined that the tik is worth
R125 000 and so he will appear on drug dealing charges.”
Murphy, 44, who is worth R53 million, as well as his ex-wife, Shafieka Murphy, 49, Dominique Davidson and Leon Paulsen are on trial at the Western Cape High Court, facing 229 charges including racketeering, money laundering and charges relating to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
In September 2015, at Davidson’s house in Reindeer Street, Grassy Park, police confiscated R4 million in cash and drugs, which included 7 985 packets of tik, 10 400 units of heroin and sealing machines.
The suspects were arrested in 2016 and are out on bail of R20 000.

Murphy, who has had several of his vehicles confiscated by the Assets Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in January, has proclaimed his innocence, saying he is a businessman.
Murphy’s sister, Glenda Bird, who had been on trial with him, died of colon cancer in December last year.
