A 56-year-old neighbourhood watch member appeared in Mitchells Plain court on Thursday on charges of assault after she allegedly moered a mert’s henchman.
Well-known crimefighter and community worker Mymoena Pillay, 56, was discharged from hospital a few days before and says she had been in her bed when a henchman of alleged drug kingpin Fadwaan ‘Vet’ Murphy was apparently assaulted at Murphy’s.
Murphy, 44, and five others are currently facing over 230 charges in the Cape High Court.
Mymoena’s daughter, Raafiqah Ganger, says they were horrified when her mom was arrested and would seek reparation for the “senseless case”.
Supporters for the family filled the court but there was chaos when an accused tried to escape from the holding cells.
As the man tried to run, he knocked over crimefighter Mishkah Keraan, the wife of Pagad member Mogamat Keraan.
Mishkah was knocked out cold and the courtroom was cleared while the escapee was caught.
Paramedics arrived to assist the woman who was taken to hospital.
Raafiqah says as the escapee shoved Mishkah, she had hit her head on the edge of the bench.
The matter against Pillay was not heard while the family awaits a new court date.
In 2009, Mymoena and her husband, Ganief Pillay, made cases of intimidation and assault against Murphy and three of his alleged henchmen.
This after their windows were smashed with bricks, and she was harassed by a man wielding a stick and her family had been threatened.
