Four people appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the looting of a truck carrying food parcels in Kreefgat, Netreg.
A large group of mense robbed a Checkers truck and other delivery truck on Monday in full view of police.
Cops say the trucks were transporting kos pakkies which were meant to bring relief to the arme community during the lockdown.
In videos which circulated on social media, the kos skelms can be seen raiding the truck while others are seen running off with the food hampers.
The looters are min gespin by police who watched the chaos unfold from a few metres away.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila says Rodwin Rowin Mitchell, 24, Ryan Michaels, 30, Enrique Petersen, 28, and Magdalene Manuel, 28, appeared in court on charges of contravening the Disaster Management Act Regulations, public violence and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
“Four people appeared at the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court this morning in connection with the looting of a food truck carrying food parcels. Their case has been postponed to 12 May for bail information,” Ntabazalila said.
