After assaulting, raping and setting his
victim alight, alleged killer Cameron “Wong” Wilson came back to check if she was still alive.
This was the testimony of a teenager who was assaulted in the same attack, but lived to tell the tale.
Wilson, 20, is being tried in the Western Cape High Court on 15 charges, including three rapes, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Abigail Plaatjies took the stand and relived the day she and her murdered friend Stacy-Lee Mohale, 16, were brutally attacked, allegedly by Wilson and a younger boy.
This boy also took the stand yesterday but proceedings were heard in camera as he is a minor.
Abigail says she was at her aunt’s house in Heinz Park on April 24, 2015, where she also visited Stacey-Lee who lived around the corner.
The two girls walked a friend home, and on their way back, two males approached them.
“One was younger, about 13 or 14 years old, and the other older, like 19 years old,” Abigail told the court just before she broke down.
Four women in the court gallery also burst into tears.
Resuming her testimony, Abigail said: “Stacy knew the older one. She told me: ‘ Daai is Wong en hy hou van vroumense seer maak’.”
She says Wilson wanted to rob them, and when they tried to leave, he threatened to shoot them.
He then led the girls at gunpoint to a nearby field.
“There was a hokkie, and Wong said: ‘ trek julle broeke af’. Wong said he’s going to shoot us and Stacy pulled down her pants.
“Then he sexed Stacy, they were standing and she was crying.
“The younger one had me against the hokkie and he wanted to sex me, but I said: 'Ek ken nie vir julle nie en julle sal my nie sex nie.’
“After he was done with Stacy, he (Wong) said we must sit on an old mattress and started throwing droë boom takke on us, and he cut the foam off the mattress to set it alight and we begged him not to.”
Wilson let them go, but then started hitting and stabbing them.
Sobbing, Abigail explained: “As we walked away, Wong started hitting, kicking and stabbing Stacy. He stabbed her on her head and arm.
“Wong and the younger one then started stabbing me, in my head, shoulder and arm and in my back.
“Wong threatened the younger guy to do what he wanted or else he would kill him too.
“Afterwards I was lying next to Stacy; Wong threw tyres over us and set it alight with a lighter.
Alive
“When they left, I said: ‘Stacey kom ons loop, but she never answered.
“They came back again and saw I was still alive. That’s when Wong told the guy to throw bricks on my head. When he refused, he was threatened again.
“Toe gooi hy dit op my kop.
“That’s all I can remember, and I woke up in hospital,” she said bursting into tears again.
