Damning DNA evidence was presented before the Western Cape High Court yesterday where Cameron Wilson is being tried for six murders, including those of two teenage girls.
Wilson, 20, is being tried simultaneously on 15 charges, including three rapes, attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Yesterday Warrant Officer Blanche Stubs, attached to the Biology and Forensic Science Unit in Plattekloof, took the stand and testified on DNA evidence found in a rape case, allegedly committed by Wilson in Heinz Park on April 24, 2015.
It is alleged Wilson and the victim’s cousin dragged her to a bridge where the cousin assaulted her and Wilson raped her.
“I received a sealed bag containing DNA swabs and a panty. The swabs belonged to the accused and the panty to the victim,” Stubs testified.
The swabs were collected when Stubs received the case file from Nyanga SAPS.
“There was no evidence of tampering - when the bag is received the seal is broken off. Semen testing was done as it was a rape case. Results came in and semen was detected on the panty.”
He said two DNA samples were found on the victim’s panty - that of the victim, and that of Wilson. “The extraction of DNA from the panty matches the accused’s DNA,” the court heard.
Wilson’s defence, Mohamed Sibda, asked Stubs whether there were any possibilities of errors when raw samples are transferred. Stubs answered no.
The trial will continue on Monday.
