Brazen skelms looted a local makeshift library in Kraaifontein and made off with items to the value of R8 000.
The Hotspot Library, located in Dahlia Street in Scottsville, was robbed just before 4pm on Saturday.
The suspects jumped over the fence and gained access through a window.
The library’s project coordinator, Terence Crowster, says he is shocked that residents from the very community they’re trying to uplift would break the place down.

“We really lost a lot of items to the value of R8 000. We had five fire extinguishers and fire blankets, they’re gone,” he says.
“The green mat children used to sit and read on was taken, as well as a heavy duty stapler and the heavy duty ladder.
“We were still busy renovating the library, only for our own people to come and steal from a place which is meant to also act as a place of safety for children.”
According to Crowster, police are still awaiting on CCTV footage from a City of Cape Town camera located right in front of the library.
“What makes this even worse is that these skelms stole everything from right under the City’s camera.
“We’re still waiting to view the images of the burglars to see if they are known here.”
The library is now asking for anyone who would like to assist with donations to please contact the Youth Development Programme on 078 467 0263
