The five-year-old girl who was shot and injured during an incident where a 27-year-old woman was killed and another man wounded in Atlantis has passed away.
Cops have now opened two dockets for murder.
Six male suspects between the ages of 18 and 23, who were taken in for questioning, have since been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.
The group made their first appearance at the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The little girl passed away in the hospital over after being on life support.
The child was shot in the head on New Year’s Day when gunmen stormed inside flats in Bunting Crescent in Robinvale, Atlantis and killed a woman and wounded a male person.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says: “This office can confirm that a five-year-old girl passed away.
“Two charges of murder and attempted murder has been registered for investigation.
“Six suspects between the ages of 18 and 23 were arrested and appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court on January 6, 2010 on the mentioned charges.”
Ward councillor, Barbara Rass, says the community who has been left outraged by the child’s death.

“The child was on life support and the machine was switched off,” says Barbara.
“People are praising the police because of the arrests which were made and they want them to stay inside.
“It is sad that such a young life was taken because of a bullet.
“They are also happy that the police are visible on the streets.
“The State has indicated that bail will be opposed.”
The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
