On New Year’s Day, a 27-year-old woman was left dead and three people were wounded in Bunting Crescent in Robinvale.
The child, who was one of the wounded, had been shot in the head and is on life support in hospital.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
Now, ward councillor Barbara Rass is calling for stricter gun control.
CONTROL: Barbara
Police spokesperson, Mihlali Majikela, says the suspects have been questioned, but at this stage it is not clear whether anyone will be arrested or charged.
“This office can confirm that six male suspects have been taken in for questioning as pertaining to the incident,” he says.
Barbara blames access to guns: “A bullet is now taking the lives of our women and children more than that of domestic
violence.
“There needs to be more stricter gun control.
“This child is on life support now, a young life taken.
“It’s sad that communities only come together when the incident has happened.
“We will be calling for bail to be denied to the perpetrators.
“Government has made promises regarding the safety of women and
children dealing with the law, but those words need to become a reality.
“The word of God changes people’s lives and now they (government) need to stop with empty words.”
