A bus driver had to flee for his life after protesters
petrol-bombed the vehicle.
Golden Arrow Bus Services confirmed the attack on their bus close to the Borcherd’s Quarry turn off on the N2 on Wednesday night.
About 40 residents from the Nyanga area protested on the N2 and stoned the bus that was apparently on its way to the nearby depot which is situated next to Airport Industria.
The bus was first stoned then petrol-bombed by disgruntled residents of the informal settlement along the freeway, who were demanding “their basic human right to running water and electricity”.
The shack-dwellers said they were being ignored by the City of Cape Town, were not able to find employment and demanded real houses.
The same community has had several protests over the last few months, causing havoc and bringing the busy N2 highway to a standstill.

GABS spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer confirmed the attack: “The bus was set alight in the vicinity of Borcherds Quarry - unknown persons first threw stones and then set the bus alight. The bus
