A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a Golden Arrow bus was petrol-bombed on Jakes Gerwel Drive at Samora Machel on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says a case of malicious damage to property and public violence is being investigated.
Four people were injured when a petrol bomb was thrown at the bus heading to Claremont from Mitchells Plain at 7.30am.
GABS spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, said the men attacked the bus, even with police present.
“The bus was on Jakes Gerwel Drive and there was a police presence. Unknown perpetrators began pelting the bus with stones and then threw the petrol bomb.
“It failed to ignite (the bus), but one female passenger suffered burn injuries and three other passengers sustained more minor injuries.”
A 29-year-old woman tells the Daily Voice she was on her way to work when the bus was attacked.

“We had passed the R300 (turn off) and then I heard a bang and the windows shattered. When I looked up one of the passengers was [on fire] and hitting out flames as she screamed.
“There was blood everywhere as other passengers were also hurt. That lady was bleeding from her head.”
She says police were quickly on the scene: “These people just attacked us. They did not try to board the bus.”
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms: “According to reports, four people, aged 29, 31, 34 and 45, were wounded during the incident and they were transported to a medical facility for treatment.”
She said the suspect will be charged with public violence.
