Shoppers in Du Noon expecting the hustle and bustle of month-end madness got more than they bargained for on Friday morning, when the store was robbed by two armed skelms.
Two suspects entered the Shoprite store in Potsdam Road just after 10am.
The suspects stole money and fled the scene in a white Toyota RunX.
A customer says the robbery was over within minutes.
“I didn’t immediately realise what was happening but could see by people’s facial expressions something was wrong. Two men were in the store with guns,” the customer says.
“They were robbing the place. It was full as it was Sassa day.”
Shoprite confirmed the incident and says the store was reopened again on Friday.
“Shoprite can confirm that there was a robbery at its Du Noon supermarket (on Friday) morning. No one was injured during the robbery and the robbers left the store again within minutes,” the company said in a statement.
“Trauma counselling is being provided and will continue for those who require support. The store was reopened later during the same day.”
