Residents of Blue Downs say they’ve had enough of the crime in their area and marched for peace on Saturday.
Organiser Yvonne
Verhoog, 53, from The Conifers says about a 100 mense took to the streets.
“This march was against gender-based violence, but also the build-up of bodies being dumped and found in our area in the last two months.
“We were four areas marching (on Saturday) - The Conifers, Dennemere, Blackheath and Green Fields.
“The bushes and vacant housing sites have become a dumping ground for criminals,” Yvonne says.

Children carried placards reading, “I am not next”, “enough is enough”, “stop the violence”, and “stop killing us”.
Yvonne says: “We want the City to chop off the bushes. Three weeks ago the body of a young woman was found buried in the bushes, on the same day near the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court a man’s body was found in a black bag.
“The week before a policeman was robbed and murdered on his way home.”
Residents marched to all the crime scenes, where they held a moment of silence for the victims.
They later gathered at a park for a prayer session.
“There is too much infighting in the community. The time is now to stand up and take hands and as a community, we need to do what we must to protect our neighbours, family and children,” Yvonne adds.
