A skelm who threatened to stab a jogger in Muizenberg with scissors is behind bars after he was caught within minutes of the incident on Saturday.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says officers were conducting routine patrols on the walkway between Muizenberg and St James beaches on Saturday morning when they were told what happened.
“A jogger was held up by the suspect who threatened to stab him with a pair of scissors if he didn’t give his cellphone at about 6.30am.
“The jogger gave his phone to the man and came across the officers and told them what happened,” explains Dyason.
After receiving a description of the suspect officers went looking for him and Dyason says the dom skelm was still on the walkway.
“It is unclear if he was trying to leave the area or waiting for his next victim, but officers found him and searched him and recovered the cellphone in his pocket.
“That area is known for muggings, so the officers do several patrols.”
Dyason explains while checking the 35-year-old man from Lavender Hill into Muizenberg Police Station it was found that he had previously also been convicted for robbery.
“It was found that he was found guilty, but was given a suspended sentence so he was not imprisoned.
“The victim is commended for his courage in taking a stand against crime by pressing charges against his attacker.
“Often officers catch these robbers, but the victims refuse to press charges. This gives them a chance to continue their criminal acts. The suspect was charged with armed robbery.”
