Daily Voice readers are calling for a Vangate Mall security guard to be commended for his bravery after he stopped suspects from robbing a customer and was shot and injured for his trouble.
Readers took to Facebook this week after the story of the security guard was published on Monday.
The incident took place on Friday when the security guard ran after a man who had robbed a woman.
The skelm turned around and shot and wounded the guard, who was rushed to hospital.
Police informed the Daily Voice that they arrested two suspects near the scene.
A Daily Voice reader says: “This guy needs to be recommended for a hero award by the City of Cape Town.. good example for Law Enforcement.”
Another said he wished to bless the man with money: “This guy is a bloody legend. I’d love to donate a R200 to this guy for what he did. I know it’s not much, but if we all chip in we can make life better for this hero.”
The Daily Voice has since tried to obtain contact details for the man.
But Skye Abrahams, the marketing manager for Mustard Seed Relationship Marketing for Vangate Mall, says while the idea of the public getting behind the guard is great, they are not in a position to share his personal details yet: “This is great. I do not think that at this point we can give out his personal details.
“I would have to get this approved and find a way in which donations can be made.”
